About Seen and Heard
Seen and Heard: Young People’s Voices and Freedom of Expression is an international research project led by the University of Malta, in collaboration with University of Malta, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, University of Wrocław and Amnesty International Poland.
The project draws from a strong, cross-sectoral network of institutions and individuals across Europe, in addition to the participation of over 500 students aged 10-14, representing over 48 nationalities.
More about us
Seen and Heard is a cross-sectoral, cross-cultural, interdisciplinary, and multimedia project implemented by inspiring young people in Malta, Germany, and Poland alongside academics, educators, activists, artists, publishers, and policy-makers.
What began with an interest in the power of literature to enact social change grew into a desire to explore how far we could co-create a freedom of expression movement in schools, situated in post-migrant communities. Determined to be led by the young people that we encountered, the project shifted and grew over the years.
In their own words, being seen and heard matters because it changes lives, our own and those of the people around us. It is also the first premise of social justice.
