Animated poems
Those of us who are in Berlin explored and expressed our needs, wishes, hopes and criticism through poetry.
In response to Maya Angelou’s poem “Life Doesn’t Frighten Me“ (1978), the poet Tanasgol Sabbagh supported us to produce our own texts.
Process
We asked questions about the things that scare us but also what makes us strong enough to deal with those fears.
- First we wrote poems in which we confronted our personal fears under the title “Nichts im Leben macht mir Angst” (Nothing in Life Frightens Me).
- Then we worked on our personal wishes and desires, starting with the words “Ich wünsche mir einen Ort…” (I wish for a Place…).
- Then we recorded our poems as audios.
You can listen to our voices and read the texts’ translations in English here. Instead of using our real names, we preferred to invent pseudonyms so we made up names for ourselves.

Like Saudi Arabia: there is Mecca, there are nice dates, Shawarma, the weather is always hot
